From the recording Through Fire

"Through Fire" was born during one of my healing sessions in the Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber (HBOT) at UCSD. During a quiet period of reflection while breathing 100% oxygen, an unexpected memory from many years ago gently surfaced. It carried me back to experiences that had once left deep emotional wounds, moments I rarely allowed myself to revisit because they inevitably awakened feelings of anger and sorrow.
Yet, on this day, something extraordinary had changed.
The memories were still vivid. I could recall the events with remarkable clarity. But the anger was gone.
In its place was a profound sense of peace.
I realized that I had quietly crossed a threshold in my own healing. The past had not been erased, nor did its painful moments suddenly become acceptable. Hurtful actions remain hurtful. Yet they no longer held authority over my heart. They had become part of my story rather than the definition of my life.
As I reflected further, an even deeper understanding emerged. Without those difficult chapters, I might never have discovered the path I now walk. My life has unfolded into one filled with purpose, service, creativity, and love. The blessings that surround me today have become visible in ways I could never have imagined while I was living through those earlier struggles.
Looking back now, I can see that even the most painful seasons were quietly preparing me for something greater. The fire was never sent to destroy me. It was refining me, patiently revealing strengths, compassion, and gratitude that could not have been discovered any other way.
"Through Fire" is my way of honoring that journey. It is a song about healing, forgiveness, and the quiet miracle of remembering who we have always been beneath our fears, disappointments, and wounds.
Musically, the song unfolds as a sweeping Neo-Folk and Symphonic Rock spiritual ballad, tracing the soul's gentle movement from regret to remembrance. Beginning with the intimacy of a lone acoustic guitar beside a glowing campfire, it gradually blossoms into a breathtaking orchestral landscape. Celtic whistles, soaring strings, wordless choir, and expressive electric guitars accompany the emotional journey, while extended instrumental passages invite the listener to pause, breathe, and reflect.
At its heart, "Through Fire" is an invitation to hope.
It reminds me of words that came to me during those difficult years through an unexpected spiritual experience. During that season of my life, Moses the Black, the fourth-century Desert Father whose own life was transformed from violence to extraordinary compassion, appeared to me in a profound inner experience and offered a simple message I have never forgotten:
"Nothing in your life is ever wasted."
Those words have echoed through the years, and only now do I feel I fully understand what they meant.
Every disappointment, unanswered prayer, lonely road, and unexpected detour can become part of a larger story of transformation. The fire does not define us; it reveals us.
In the end, we discover that love never abandoned us, the door was never locked, and home has always been waiting within us.
If this song offers anything, I hope it offers the quiet reassurance that healing is possible, forgiveness is freedom, and that even after our hardest journeys, we can emerge with hearts that are gentler, wiser, more compassionate, and more deeply alive.

Lyrics

Through Fire
[Verse 1]
I walked a road without a compass,
Thinking I had lost my way.
Holding every broken memory,
Like ashes from another day.
Looking back,
I saw only endings—
Never knowing
Love remained.
[Verse 2]
Time became a quiet teacher,
Turning darkness into dawn.
Then one morning,
Without warning,
I found the anger gone.
Blessed is the sacred fire
Burning every borrowed name.
What survives the flames forever
Was never made by flame.
[Pre-Chorus]
Every ember,
Every heartbeat,
Every step I could not see,
Was preparing
Who I would be.
[Chorus]
Through fire,
I found the light within.
The place I could begin.
Every tear,
Every dream,
Every mountain I climbed
Led me home
To the soul
I had always known.
[Verse 3]
Titles drifted like the autumn.
Ambition laid its armor down.
I was never chasing greatness,
Only trying not to drown.
Music taught my heart to listen.
Silence taught my soul to hear.
Healing showed that every broken place
Was fashioned for love, not fear.
Nothing...
Nothing was ever wasted.
Every unanswered prayer,
Every lonely night,
Every broken choice
Became another ember
In the same sacred fire.
[Bridge]
Women clothed in grace
Walked beside me,
Seen and unseen,
Lighting every mile.
They gave love.
They sent healing.
With whispers
From beside and above
[Final Chorus]
Through fire,
I remembered who I am.
Every ending
Was another open hand.
Every sorrow
Prepared the way.
Love had never left
The door was never locked.
The gate was never closed.
The fire found the man
I was meant to be.
[Outro]
Now I walk,
Singing with a grateful heart.
Every flame,
Every unseen hand,
Led me safely to this land.
