From the recording The Wonder of Becoming Whole
The Wonder of Becoming Whole was born from a simple realization that healing is far larger than the treatment of illness. It is larger than any single method, philosophy, or technique. Healing is the restoration of wholeness. It is the gradual remembering of who we truly are beneath fear, loss, separation, and struggle.
Over the years, my own journey through cancer, spiritual healing, energy medicine, meditation, prayer, and the support of family, friends, and community has revealed something beautiful. While medical treatments may help restore the body, healing itself reaches much further. It touches the heart, the mind, our relationships, our sense of purpose, and our connection to Spirit.
This song celebrates that larger vision.
Through images of rivers finding the ocean, seeds awakening beneath winter snow, and scattered pieces returning home, the song tells the story of restoration that unfolds within every human life. It honors the quiet labor of healing that often takes place unseen, in moments of courage, gratitude, forgiveness, love, and renewed hope.
Musically, the song blends warm acoustic guitar, gentle piano, soaring strings, rich cello, and a rising gospel choir that gradually expands into a powerful symphonic finale. What begins as a personal reflection grows into a communal anthem of belonging and remembrance.
At its heart lies a simple message:
Healing is remembering.
Remembering that we belong.
Remembering that love has never abandoned us.
Remembering that beneath every wound there remains an essential wholeness waiting to be rediscovered.
The recurring chorus, "Healing is remembering, we have all belonged all along", serves as both a declaration and an invitation. It reminds us that healing is not merely the absence of struggle. It is the awakening of life itself. It is the return of joy, gratitude, connection, purpose, and presence.
As the song reaches its choir finale, voices join together in a celebration of humanity's shared journey home:
"Healing is remembering...
Healing is remembering...
We were whole all along..."
The Wonder of Becoming Whole is ultimately a song of hope. A song of restoration. A song of life remembering itself.
This is healing.
This is restoration.
This is love.
This is home.
Lyrics
THE WONDER OF BECOMING WHOLE
(Neo-Folk • Symphonic Americana • Country Gospel Anthem)
E. Craig Hendricks
[Verse 1]
I have walked through weary seasons,
through the valleys of my fear,
Searching for a distant answer,
thinking healing lived somewhere.
But the dawn came softly calling
with a light I couldn't hold,
And She whispered through my brokenness:
"Come home and be made whole."
[Verse 2]
Healing's more than doctors' offices,
more than medicines we take,
More than all the hands that help us,
more than every path we make.
It's the river finding ocean,
it's the seed beneath the snow,
It's the scattered pieces gathering
to the place they used to know.
[Pre-Chorus]
Body finding peace again,
mind discovering the way,
Heart remembering how to love,
spirit welcoming the day.
[Chorus]
This is the wonder,
the wonder of becoming whole,
Every wounded road returning
to the center of the soul.
Like a thousand streams united,
like a choir finding song,
Healing is remembering
we have all belonged all along.
[Verse 3]
I have seen the quiet labor
of restoration deep within,
Moving through the tears and laughter,
through the places we have been.
Through the memories and heartaches,
through the hopes we dare to keep,
Love was working in the silence
where the roots grow strong and deep.
[Verse 4]
What a miracle of living,
to awaken once again,
To the beauty of a sunrise,
to the touch of family and friends.
To a shared meal at the table,
to the wind among the trees,
To the sacred gift of breathing,
to the simple gift of peace.
[Pre-Chorus]
Joy returning to the heart,
gratitude becoming sight,
Presence shining through the darkness,
like the stars across the night.
[Chorus]
This is the wonder,
the wonder of becoming whole,
Every wounded road returning
to the center of the soul.
Like a thousand streams united,
like a choir finding song,
Healing is remembering
we have all belonged all along.
[Bridge]
Body, mind, and heart together,
relationships and dreams,
Purpose, spirit, love and laughter,
woven through the tapestry.
Nothing stands apart forever,
nothing travels all alone,
Life is one great sacred river
carrying us home.
[Symphonic Build]
Awaken to the wonder,
awaken to the light,
Awaken to the love that's been
beside you every night.
Awaken to the music
creation always sings,
The song of life remembering
the wholeness of all things.
[Final Chorus]
This is the wonder,
the wonder of becoming whole,
Not the absence of a struggle,
but the freedom of the soul.
Standing underneath the heavens
with grateful eyes to see,
Healing is becoming
everything we're meant to be.
[Choir Finale]
Healing is remembering...
Healing is remembering...
Healing is remembering...
We were whole all along...
Healing is remembering...
Healing is remembering...
Healing is remembering...
We were whole all along...
[Outro]
This is healing.
This is restoration.
This is life remembering itself.
This is love.
This is home.
Oh. This is home, this is home,
But the dawn came softly calling
With the light, I couldn't hold
And She whispered through my brokenness.
Come home and be made whole.
